Matchmaking and Recommendations

The platform offers 2 types of matchmaking - Default Matchmaking and Multi-space Matchmaking - with each controlled by Product Categories and Basic Matchmaking Settings.

Exclusion Filters and Data Matching offer options for further refining match results.

Recommendations for non-people items, such as companies and sessions, based on the user’s interest categories are offered, along with personalized exhibitor recommendations based on the user’s interactions and behaviors if the “Recommend Related Exhibitors” toggle has been turned on

As of December 2024, the separate Matchmaking Page has been combined with the Recommendations Page in our new Unified Recommendations Page making it easier for users to view all matches and recommendations in one place.

Personalized exhibitor recommendations to users based on their interactions and behaviors. This is achieved through a new setting in the admin panel that allows for the display of recommended exhibitors after a meeting request is initiated.

In April 2026 an update was made to the platform to share and propagate likes across all members of an exhibitor team. Previously, inactive team members with zero likes were reducing the exhibitor's overall recommendation effectiveness. Exhibitors now benefit from combined team-level activity, ensuring better matching opportunities regardless of whether individual team members are active.

Working with this Feature

  1. Admin Panel Settings:

    • A new setting, "Recommend Related Exhibitors," is added to the admin panel under /admin/appointments/recommendation. This toggle is off by default and includes a tooltip explaining its function.

    • When enabled, users will see a pop-up with recommended exhibitors after initiating a meeting, and a "Recommended Exhibitors" block will appear on their schedule page.

    • The "Where to return user after meeting request" setting now includes an option to redirect users to the "Schedule page."

  2. Frontend Changes:

    • A "Recommended Exhibitors" pop-up appears after a successful meeting request, featuring a list of up to 20 exhibitors and a "See all recommendations" button.

    • A "Recommended Exhibitors" block is added to the schedule page, visible only when the setting is enabled.

    • Both the pop-up and block are interactive, with exhibitor cards displaying interaction buttons based on user permissions.

Important Points to Know

  • Benefits to Customers: This feature provides users with tailored recommendations, enhancing their networking experience by suggesting exhibitors similar to those they have interacted with.

  • Differences Between Web and App: The feature is primarily designed for the web interface, with no specific mention of app integration.

  • Product Admin Notes:

    • Ensure the "Recommend Related Exhibitors" toggle is enabled to activate the feature.

    • The feature relies on the Online RecSys being active; contact the Data Science team to ensure data pipelines are running.

    • The "Recommended Exhibitors" block and pop-up are not shown to exhibitors and team members if the "Allow Exhibitor to Exhibitor matchmaking" setting is off.

This feature is part of the ongoing efforts to increase engagement and minimize effort for users by leveraging intelligent recommendations.
