Scanner Functionality (Mobile App)

Overview

The mobile app includes a built-in scanner that lets users capture QR codes and badges directly from their phone or tablet. The scanner is one of the most-used onsite features — it powers lead capture for exhibitors, check-ins for organisers and quick networking actions for all participants.

What the scanner is used for

  • Lead capture (exhibitors and team members). Scan a visitor's badge to add them to the exhibitor's leads list, with optional rating, notes and follow-up tags.

  • Networking and contact exchange. Any user can scan another user's badge to connect, save them to their contacts and (where enabled) appear in the "Scanned Me" list of the scanned user.

  • Login via badge. Where the organiser has enabled badge-scan login, the scanner is used as the second factor in the OTP login flow.

  • Co-located event scanning. When enabled, the scanner can read badges issued by other events sharing the same back-end environment.

  • Generic code scanning. When the "Allow Any Code Scan" setting is on, the scanner will accept and store any QR or barcode, even if it is not linked to platform data.

Where to find the scanner

  1. Open the event mobile app and log in.

  2. Tap the Scan icon in the bottom navigation (or the Scans tab for exhibitor / team member accounts).

  3. Allow the app to use the camera the first time you are prompted.

  4. Point the camera at the QR code or badge — the scanner reads it automatically.

What happens after a scan

  • If the code matches a platform user, the app opens that user's profile so you can add notes, rate the lead or send a meeting / message request.

  • If lead capture is enabled, the scanned contact is added to the exhibitor's leads list and is available for export.

  • If "Allow Any Code Scan" is enabled and the code does not match a platform user, the raw scanned value is stored under the user's scan history.

  • All successful scans appear in the user's My Scans list and can be exported from the app.

Permissions and access

  • Access to the scanner can be restricted by participant or exhibitor category.

  • Lead capture rights are granted by the organiser at the global, category or individual exhibitor level.

  • The "Scanned Me" list — which lets a user see who scanned their badge — is opt-in and controlled at event level under Networking & Matchmaking > Contact Sharing.
