Indoor Location via CrowdConnected

Overview

CrowdConnected is a third-party vendor that provides indoor + outdoor positioning and location-based services. Through integration with the ExpoPlatform mobile app, event participants are then able to use bluedot navigation at the event.

Setup

The feature can be found in Event Set up > General > Settings

The setup consists of 3 fields to be filled in:

  1. App key

  2. Token

  3. Secret

CrowdConnected is integrated with our mobile application via SDK. The floor plan will flow into ExpoPlatform from ExpoFP and ExpoPlatform will show navigation and indicate user location on the floor plan within the event app.

When this option is enabled, and a device capable of determining position is being used, a blue dot (beacon) will appear on the floor plan indicating the user's location. As the user moves, the blue dot will update in real time to reflect the user's current position.

PLEASE NOTE: If the integration is enabled after the app is submitted to the store, an app update will be required.

Turning on this integration requires a video presentation and text description of the feature to be submitted to stores as the feature requires background location permission. 

End user experience

End users need to allow access to the device’s location once they click on Floor Plan

Permission to find, connect and determine the relative position of nearby devices also needs to be granted. 

Once both permissions are granted, a blue dot (beacon) will appear on the Floor Plan with the user's precise location. 

As the user moves, the blue dot move with them. Users can also build routes from their current location to a different stand.
