Messages Limits
Feature Purpose:
Define the number of initiated chats per day and / or in total by users of a particular category (badge type).
Working with this Feature:
Messages limits settings are presented in the admin panel in 2 places:
In the exhibitor category settings pop-up at /admin/registration/ecategories (to open, please navigate Registration Settings module >>> Exhibitor >>> Exhibitor Categories tab):

Settings icon per category
In the participant category settings pop-up at /admin/registration/categories (to open, please navigate Registration Settings >>> Visitor >>> Participant Categories tab) :

Settings icons per category

Messages Limit settings per Day and in Total
After the settings icon is clicked, limits can then be set:
Daily initiations chats limit – defines how many chats per day can be initiated by users of this category.
Total initiation chats limit – defines how many chats in total can be initiated by users of this category.
Important points to note:
Value “0” in the respective field means no allowance:

No chat initiation allowed
To set “unlimited” you can just turn off the limit:

Unlimited chat initiation is allowed
Chat limits are pooled at the exhibitor entity level.
The limit for an exhibitor is split between the exhibitor company accounts and all its team members. For team members these settings depend on the individual settings applied to the team member’s badge category in Participants Categories settings as shown below. If limits are not set for the team member’s badge category, then the exhibitor category limit will apply.
Even if the organiser creates a separate participant category for "Team Members" with its own message limit, the platform applies chat quotas per exhibitor entity, not per individual user within that entity. All team members draw from the same pool. At this time it’s not possible to set per-team member limits.
Example of How Limits Work
When an organiser configures a participant category limit (e.g., "Exhibitor Team Members may send 50 messages per event"), that limit applies to the exhibitor entity as a whole, not to each individual team member.
Example:
Exhibitor "Acme Corp" has 3 team members.
The category limit is 50 messages.
All 3 team members draw from the same pool of 50 messages.
If one team member sends 40 messages, only 10 remain for the other two combined.
Default = 0 Causes Silent Failure
If the message limit is left at its default value of 0, participants are silently blocked from sending messages — they receive no error, and messages appear to send but are not delivered.
Always verify that message limits are set to a value > 0 in event configuration, or explicitly set to "unlimited" if that is the intent.
Common Organiser Scenarios
Scenario | Cause | Resolution |
|---|---|---|
Team members hit their limit faster than expected | All team members share one pool | Increase limit if needed |
Participants can't send messages but no error shown | Limit = 0 (default) | Set limit to a positive value or unlimited |
We set per-user limits but they're not being respected | Platform doesn't support per-user limits yet | Not yet a platform feature |
Configuration Guidance
Go to Event Settings → Participant Categories → select the category.
Set message limit to a positive integer (e.g., 200) or "No limit" as appropriate.
Verify the setting is saved and propagated before the event opens.
For exhibitor categories with multiple team members, multiply the per-user expectation by the number of team members to set an appropriate entity-level pool.
To configure team member limits, please open Registration Settings module >>> Visitor >>> Participant Categories tab and select the relevant settings for the respective category used for team members accounts, such as “Exhibitor” or any other relevant team members badge type:

For Exhibitors limits (by Exhibitors we are referring to company accounts themselves), the setting is applied separately. To configure these limits, please open Registration Settings module >>> Exhibitor and add necessary limits as per each exhibitor category.
Troubleshooting:
Ensure that the necessary permissions applied to the respective participant/exhibitor category;
Check the number of chats allowed per day / in total and ensure that these settings are configured correclty as per the instructions on the above
